IUCN SSC CAT SG
KORA hosts the chair of the IUCN SSC Cat Specialist Group, which maintains a global network of cat specialists. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), also called the World Conservation Union, is an international NGO. One part of IUCN is the Species Survival Commission (SSC), a network of over 9,000 experts advocating globally the protection of species, nature and the environment. The SSC is divided into different groups, one of which is the Cat Specialist Group, which is dedicated to all cat species worldwide.
As a result of the collaboration with the IUCN SSC Cat SG, KORA is linked globally and involved in international species conservation projects. In this regard, KORA primarily promotes three important subjects:
- the surveillance of species and populations with reliable methods (monitoring);
- the cooperative development and implementation of Conservation Strategies and Action Plans for species and subspecies; and
- the training of conservation experts.
