The Lynx In The Reference Area Upper Valais

In winter 2024/2025, camera-trap monitoring was conducted in three reference areas. The second of these has now been analysed; the first one covered North-eastern Switzerland. New estimates of lynx density are now available for this second area.

Lynx in Vorarlberg – Switzerland and Liechtenstein as source populations

Since 2018, lynx from northeastern Switzerland have been documented migrating eastward into the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. The reintroduction of the lynx, particularly in northeastern Switzerland, represents an important milestone for the species’ return to Austria. In Vorarlberg, lynx originating from Switzerland and Liechtenstein have been repeatedly confirmed since 2012. The current lynx monitoring report from Vorarlberg for the 2024/25 monitoring year provides an overview of the local situation.

Germany: Swiss Lynx With Offspring Caught on Camera Trap

In Western Ore Mountains, the Swiss lynx Alva was photographed with two cubs on a camera trap. The female had been captured in the wild in the Swiss Jura in spring 2024 and released into the wild as part of the «RELynxSachsen» project. This reproduction marks the first lynx offspring in Saxony in almost 300 years.

The Diet of Wolves in Switzerland – Part 2

In Switzerland, wolves primarily feed on wild ungulates, with the red deer (Cervus elaphus) being the most significant prey item. Overall, wild animals constitute 88.3% of the wolves' diet.
