Canton of Grisons: Calanda wolf F07, probably the oldest wolf in Switzerland, is dead

Probably the oldest female wolf in Switzerland is dead. The female F07, founder of the Calanda pack, had to be shot by the gamekeepers on Monday evening near Haldenstein due to her physically poor condition and lack of escape reactions. The age of the animal is estimated at 13 to 14 years. In June 2011, the first traces of F07 were found in the Upper Valais. Since autumn 2011, the she-wolf had been living in the canton of Graubünden.

Wolf monitoring: changes in DNA analysis

On behalf of the Swiss Confederation, the Laboratoire de Biologie de la Conservation (LBC) of the University of Lausanne analyses genetic samples in order to be able to genetically identify wolves at the individual level. The analysis method was optimised this year. This has resulted in some changes.
