Project Update Spring 2024: Wolves and Cattle
For the «Wolves and Cattle» research project, intensive efforts were once again made this spring to tag wolves in the canton of Vaud. The spring trapping season lasted from 26 February to 25 March 2024 and we take a look back.

On Maundy Thursday 2024, a second female Swiss lynx was released in the German Ore Mountains as part of the «RElynx Sachsen» project.
Swiss Lynx Successfully Translocated
The Swiss lynx B891 was released on 18 March 2024 in eastern Germany, specifically in the Ore Mountains in Saxony, as part of the «RElynx Saxony» project supported by the Federal Office for the Environment. The lynx, which originates from the Jura Mountains, is intended to help establish a lynx population in Saxony that will contribute to the conservation of the lynx in Europe.

Project Update: End of the Wildcat Project's Trapping Season
This year, in the Bucheggberg region, six cats were examined, sampled, and equipped with GPS collars using nine box traps to collect health and movement data as part of the Wildcat Project.

Improving habitat connectivity for lynxes
Wildlife corridors are of enormous importance for the connectivity of lynx in Switzerland. There are over 300 wildlife corridors of supra-regional importance nationwide, over two thirds of which are currently either only passable by wild animals to a limited extent or not at all. The federal government and cantons have therefore planned the restoration of numerous wildlife corridors. In the canton of Fribourg, for example, the restoration of two wildlife corridors is now taking concrete shape.

Eurasian lynx and Balkan lynx listed in the Appendices of the Bonn Convention
The 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP14) which is held from 12 February to 17 February 2024 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, has listed the Eurasian lynx on Appendix II and the Critically Endangered Balkan lynx on Appendix I.
