«Quo vadis Lynx?» – Conference and Workshop

From May 10 to12, some 60 experts from continental Europe met in Wöltingerode in the German Harz Mountains to hold a conference and to discuss the concepts and cooperation for the conservation of the Carpathian lynx in West and Central Europe in a workshop. The Carpathian lynx was originally restricted to the Carpathian Mountains. Reintroduction projects have used this subspecies of the Eurasian lynx to restore the former lynx range.  Hence a broad and sensible cooperation between all West- and Central European countries is needed to secure the long-term survival of the metapopulation of Carpathian lynx.

Wildcat on the Plateau of Vaud and Fribourg

Having escaped extinction, the European wildcat is on the rise again in Switzerland. Although the vast majority of Swiss wildcats are found in the Jura, the species has recently colonised some new areas. The KORA Foundation conducts several surveys with camera traps on the situation of wildcats in the Swiss Central Plateau.

Longest known dispersal of wolf in Europe

M237 was born in the canton of Grisons, was radio-collared by the Office for Hunting and Fishing of the Canton of Grisons and migrated hundreds of kilometres east to the Hungarian-Slovakian border from June 2022 to March 2023. Thus, the canton of Grisons succeeded in documenting the longest dispersal of a wolf in Europe known so far.
